Timothy & Rhiannon’s Story
Timothy and Rhiannon are parents to two children. Both adults, as well as one of their children, live with health conditions and rely on benefits for financial support.
When their child moved into continued education, complications arose with their benefit entitlements, triggering ongoing problems with their income. Some of their benefit payments were incorrect, while others were not being received at all.
The couple had been struggling financially for several years. Their health conditions make it challenging to keep on top of administrative tasks, which contributed to feelings of hopelessness and led to mounting issues.
At home, they were facing further challenges. Their cooker was broken, and they had been without a working washing machine for over a year. With no spare income, replacing these essential appliances felt impossible.
To ease immediate pressures, we issued:
A fuel voucher to meet urgent energy needs
A supermarket voucher to ease food insecurity
A new washing machine and cooker to replace their broken appliances
Our adviser worked closely with the family to address the root causes of their financial difficulties. This included successfully reinstating their Child Benefit and offering step-by-step guidance through complex benefit and administrative processes. Practical support was provided with phone calls and paperwork, helping to overcome barriers caused by their health conditions.
Alongside this, our adviser offered emotional support, helping Timothy and Rhiannon to address feelings of hopelessness, helping them to regain confidence and motivation.
As a result, a significant financial and practical burden was lifted. The family’s household income improved, and they were better able to meet their essential needs. They also reported feeling more confident in managing future challenges, having been guided through the benefits system with clear, compassionate support.
By combining practical help with realistic goal-setting, we were able to support Timothy and Rhiannon not only to stabilise their finances, but to feel empowered to face whatever comes next.
“I can’t thank you enough to be honest with you, you have been absolutely wonderful. Literally almost a life saver. We’re getting a washing machine and a cooker which is absolutely incredible. I couldn’t believe it, we are so grateful for that and the money for the food and energy voucher, and now sorting out the child benefit for me as well. It’s just amazing. Thank you.”
