Najla’s Story
Najla cares for six children.
As a survivor of domestic abuse, she experiences anxiety, depression, and PTSD, with stress often triggering severe IBS that can leave her bedbound. With a large household to provide for, she faces ongoing financial strain from high food and energy costs.
To ease immediate pressures, we issued:
A fuel voucher to help with high energy costs
A supermarket voucher to relieve food insecurity
A new tumble dryer to replace an old, leaking, and unsafe appliance
“Thank you so much, this will be very helpful for me and my children.”
These provided instant stability by easing financial pressure, improving safety, and offering reassurance that support was available during a difficult period.
With the immediate crisis alleviated, our adviser continues to work closely with Najla to strengthen her long-term financial position and wellbeing. Najla will receive further support with energy efficiency to help reduce future energy costs and improve comfort in her home, support with identifying additional needs of one of the young children, and applications to help lower ongoing bills. Due to the health conditions of Najla and one of her children, we are exploring the entitlements that they may be offered, recognising the impact of their health conditions on their ability to work.
Najla’s story highlights how immediate crisis intervention, when combined with sustained casework, helps families overcome hardship while building lasting financial resilience.
