Fuel Support Grant

In an effort to help households during the cost of living crisis, the UK Government announced the Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS), giving all homes with a domestic electricity connection a £400 discount to help with energy bills over Winter 2022 to 2023.

The discount started in October 2022, with the payments being applied monthly until March 2023.

Whilst the Government have now resolved the issue, Utilita Giving identified a number of UK households that weren’t receiving the discount they were entitled to. These homes were primarily a block of landlord operated properties, with each of the residences electric supply being fed through the main landlord meter. The landlord has an agreement with each of the tenants to include energy within their rent payments.

When it came to the EBSS discount, that meant the only eligible electricity supply was to the landlord, therefore the landlord received the discount, but none of the other properties.

With that in mind, and through our partnership with Utilita, we created the Fuel Support Grant, which helped a further 132 households receive the discount they were entitled to.
